What guitar should I buy?

ok, im 14 and have been playing for 6 monthsl a classic guitar and I want to move on an electric. Im thinking Epiphone Standard Plus Top or a Gretsch Pro Jet. The bands tha i like are skillet, breaking benjamins, switchfoot, Red, the all american rejects, others. I want to know if the epi is good for hard-rock and the bands I listed, also what is a good amp or amp kit. Im thinking in the Fender Mustang 11 is the amp ok?, I also want to know if the book From Hero To Guitar Hero is ok for me to start. So mainly, what electric guitar should I get for my style epi or gretsch, if the gretsch bigsby makes the guitar better, and amp or ampkit (Fender Mustang11)
thanks for all answers!!!

Hello there,

Either of those guitars are all right. They are not the guitars I would recommend for a beginner. (if you have been playing for only 6 months, you are still a beginner in my book).

How did you select those 2 guitars? Have you tried them out to test how they feel and how they sound? Why the LP Plus Top? That is not a guitar I would expect a beginner to get. It is a regular Les Paul with a high quality looking book matched maple cap on the body, hence the name Plus Top. You can get a regular Les Paul and it will play the same and cost much less.

Not sure why you picked the Mustang 2. It is all right, but not all that great. I don't care for the speaker in it. The amp does not have enough power to handle gain and distortion well (runs out of head room). Those same two complains apply to most small practice amps. One other knock I have on the Mustang is that it seems pretty complicated to use. I would not recommend it for a beginner. Yes, it is targeted in its marketing as a beginners amp. But I think there are much simplier amps out there that are more suitable for a beginner. Such as the Line 6 Spider 30 watt 1x12.

Later,

Hello again,

I made a mistake on the amp. The Mustang II is a 40 watt 1x12. I confused it with another model. That amp has enough power to handle gain and distortion. I think it has a Jensen speaker that has a decent sound. My only knock on the Mustang line is that they are a little complicated to use. But that is a decent sounding amp and Fender does not make too many good modeling amps. That is about the best of the small modeling amps from Fender. I apologize for any confusion. I was thinking about a different Fender amp when I wrote my answer.
