The Princess was a Corvette with a few modifications that were supposed to make them attractive to women. In fact, Gretsch’s marketing of the Princess said this guitar was "designed for the feminine guitarist." What made it so feminine? Apparently it was the padded back, asymmetrical dual cutaways, and color schemes that favored lighter and more womanly shades. Each one also came with a matching strap and amp to make a complete guitarist "outfit" - almost like a dress, shoes, and accessories!

The body of the G6106 was mahogany, strategically routed to make it almost entirely hollow and attached to a 22-fret mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. Gretsch used a single HiLow Tron pickup, trapeze tailpiece with palm vibrato, bar bridge, and bone nut. Gold plated hardware, which included single volume and tone knobs, was complimented nicely by a pickguard to match the specific color scheme. Color choices for the Princess were blue and white, pink and white, and smoke green and gold.

Gretsch was sure that a lightweight solid-body that looked a bit more feminine would provide a great introduction of budding female musicians into the world of electric guitars. Yet despite their the best efforts to make a solid body aimed at the female masses the G6106 Princess only lasted two years, coming to a merciful end in 1963.
