The 6103 was the cherry red incarnation in the series and perhaps the best seller. In its original form it was built with the standard maple body and neck, rosewood fretboard, and combination thumb print and dot inlays. Two SuperTron pickups combined with a space control bridge and G-cutout tailpiece to produce the Streamliner's sound. The master volume control was placed on the lower cutaway while the tone control and pickup selector switch on the upper bout. The 6103 was a double cutaway box in a thinline package.

When the Baldwin bought the Gretsch in 1967 they immediately began looking for ways to cut production costs. One of the most notable things they did was use lower quality hardware on most of their models. That philosophy is clearly seen in the Baldwin knobs and switches used on the 6103 Streamliner. They looked and felt cheap, rather than being the quality hardware Gretsch players were used to. As you can imagine, the fate of the 6103 was sealed and officially ended in 1973. A few stragglers remained until 1975. Though the 6103 Streamliner was not the best guitar ever built by Gretsch, it still is a nice ax that looks and plays well.
